The peasant and miner uprising in Salzburg brought the Prince-Bishopric to the brink of collapse in the 16th century. The struggle against the authorities was particularly successful in the Innergebirge region. The rebels managed to capture the Fortress Hohenwerfen, and the castle briefly became a symbol of their victory.
